Activities for the 156th Washington County Fair are underway through next Saturday, September 21st at the Washington County Expo.

Today’s (Friday) schedule includes registration for tomorrow’s (Saturday) barbecue cook-off, as well as a pitch tournament at 7 p.m.  Tomorrow features the trail ride at 8 a.m., the parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m., and the announcement of the fair queen at 6 p.m.

The theme for this year’s fair is “Celebrating Our Rising Stars”.  Fair Manager Dean Fuchs and Fair President Michael Bentke, speaking during Tuesday’s Community Corner on KWHI, said the fair is an opportunity to see the talent and work ethic of Washington County’s youth and support them as they turn into the next generation of leaders.

Also tomorrow, fairgoers can look forward to washer and bean bag tournaments, a car and truck show, the ranch rodeo, and live music from the Texas Unlimited Band at 8 p.m.  Sunday will have a Cowboy Church service at 8:30 a.m., the bucket calf show at 1 p.m. and the ag mechanics contest at 4 p.m.  Tuesday will have team roping and the opening of the Heart of America carnival.

Market livestock judging shows will be held throughout the day on Wednesday, which will also have the announcement of the Little and Junior Mister and Miss contests starting at 6 p.m.  Commercial shows will take place on Thursday along with the Champion Drive at 10:30 a.m.

The junior livestock auction will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday.  That will be followed on Saturday by the country creations auction at 10 a.m., commercial steer sale at 1 p.m., and colt and commercial heifer sale at 2 p.m.

Elsewhere around the fair, there will be rodeo events, a livestock judging contest, hay hauling and greased pig contests and a pet show.

Next week’s music lineup begins with De Parranda on Wednesday, Jeff Woolsey & The Dancehall Kings on Thursday, Tanner Usrey opening for Pecos & The Rooftops on Friday, and Jon Stork leading for headliner Carly Pearce on Saturday.

Season passes for the fair can be purchased through noon tomorrow from any of the four fair queen candidates: Kinley Antkowiak, Avila Colanter, Paige Marth and Makenzie Wehmeyer.

KWHI and KTEX-106 will have live reports throughout the fair, including at tomorrow’s parade and queen’s crowning.  KTEX-106’s fair broadcasts are sponsored by South Texas Tack.

The two stations will also have the Wagon Wheel of Prizes at the fair from Wednesday to Saturday.  Every spin of the wheel will raise funds for Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, which was destroyed in a fire in July.

In addition, KWHI will have Washington County Fair reports during the morning, noon and evening newscasts to provide daily updates on livestock judging results and other fair events.
