AUGUST UNEMPLOYMENT RATES IN AREA MOSTLY UNCHANGED FROM JULY

  

Unemployment in Washington County and surrounding counties saw little movement from July to August.

Washington County’s unemployment rate stayed the same at 4.1 percent, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The county’s number of jobless residents remained at 689 from month to month.

Overall employment numbers dipped from 16,108 in July to 15,982 in August, while the total civilian labor force fell over that time from 16,797 to 16,671.

In August 2023, the county’s unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, with 655 people out of work.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate also held steady at 4.1 percent from July to August.

Regional unemployment rates for August include:

  • Austin County – 4 percent, up from 3.9 percent in July.
  • Brazos County – 3.5 percent, unchanged from July.
  • Burleson County – 4 percent, up from 3.8 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.6 percent, up from 3.5 percent.
  • Grimes County – 4.6 percent, down from 4.7 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.5 percent, unchanged from July.
  • Waller County – 5.4 percent, down from 5.5 percent.
