PROPANE TRUCK DRIVER DIES IN ACCIDENT NEAR CAT SPRING
The driver of a propane delivery truck was killed in an accident on Monday near Cat Spring.
Austin County Judge and Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Lapham said first responders were called out around 1:15 p.m. to FM 2187, roughly two miles southeast of Cat Spring.
Units made location and found a bobtail propane delivery truck laid over onto its side and on fire.
According to Lapham, bystanders were able to get the driver out of the truck before it caught fire and attempted to perform CPR, but the victim was already deceased after succumbing to injuries from the wreck, not the fire.
The driver was identified by the Fayette County Record as 61-year-old Bruce Kubena of Ellinger.
Lapham said the propane tank’s pressure relief valve successfully vented gas from the tank. He called it “a scary scene” but said all equipment functioned as it was designed to, keeping the danger isolated to the immediate area.
Responding agencies included the Cat Spring, Sealy, Bellville and Bernardo Fire Departments, along with Austin County EMS, Austin County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.
