JUVENILE CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH VANDALISM OF FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH
The Washington County Attorney’s Office announced this (Tuesday) afternoon that a suspect has been detained and charged with delinquent conduct in connection with the vandalism that recently occurred at the First Christian Church of Brenham.
The County Attorney added that because the suspect is a juvenile, they cannot be identified at this time.
First Christian Church is located at 306 Cottonwood Street in Brenham. The incident occurred sometime during the overnight hours from Monday, September 23, to Tuesday, September 24.
Brenham Police report that during that time frame 15 antique stain-glass windows were shattered by rocks and bricks.
The congregation had just completed repair of the stained-glass windows as part of the restoration of the church building.
First Christian Church also just celebrated their 125th anniversary earlier this year.
The child is definitely looking for attention, in the wrong way. Someone with the church should take the opportunity to present the Gospel to this child (and his parents). Ephesians 2:8-9.
Then, if there is a glimmer of positive response, be sure the child understands that even though he has committed a sin, his ticket to heaven is punched if he accepts Christ as his Savior.
I saw that the Commissioners agreed to pay almost 80k for a vehicle that had bids opened for under 60k. These vehicles did not meet “specs”. What specs are required that cost $20,000. The high bid was approved because it came in under the budget. Just pat yourself on the back because you were under budget. Throwing away $20,000, of our money.
While i see talk of accountability (rightly so), this child and his/her family need prayer and need an example of God’s love.
Hopefully saved heart/s will emerge from this.
While it would be great to have the juvenile pay for the windows that seems unlikely.
Asking the parents/parent to pay may not be an option either as we do not know their financial situation.
Although I believe the parents/parent should be held liable for financial compensation to the church.
Working the money off sounds good but again that leaves the church to cover the cost to repair.
Hold the parents/parent accountable for their child’s actions and make them cover the damages seems to most logical option.
Even if it places a hardship on the parents/parent, they need to know what the child is doing to stop this from happening again.
There has to be accountability from both the child and parents/parent in my opinion.
Parents should be responsible for full payment of all repairs, child should be issued community service as well, at least 160 hours of hard work to better understand the issues they caused others. Picking up trash, cleaning public restrooms, scraping paint, etc.
Child should also have to delivery an apology after their community service in front of the congregation, and attend services for 10 Sundays in a row.
hopefully the church files against the parents insurance
God knows. That is what is imporant.
Shame is an abomination.
Coming forward shows righteousness. The parents and child have to make the choice.
Spare the rod…Spoil the child
Parents should be held financially responsible to repair all damage .
Make him pay for the windows!
Since the person is a juvenile, little will be done to him. However, the parent (or parents) ought to be morally upstanding and either pay for the conservation and repair of the windows and then have the kid work that money off, or take out a personal loan at a local financial institution for the repairs.
Make parents pay for damage
