BLINN DIRECTOR OF SIMULATION EXPLORES ROLE OF AI IN HEALTHCARE AT REGIONAL & NATIONAL CONFERENCES

  

Blinn College District Director of Simulations Sami Rahman will tackle the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on nursing education at two conferences. As the demand for skilled healthcare professionals continues to rise, so has the role of AI in training the next generation of caregivers.

“Blinn is at the forefront of integrating AI technology into our nursing coursework,” Rahman said. “Participating in these conferences highlights the College’s commitment to embracing every possible tool to train the most skilled and compassionate nurses. This dedication has resulted in our programs receiving numerous recognitions and is reflected in our students’ high national licensure exam pass rates and employment success.”

Rahman is presenting “AI is Here to Stay: Let’s Not Be Afraid” at the Texas Nursing Student Association (TNSA) annual convention in Austin Oct. 10-12. At the end of the month, she will participate in the workshop “Unleashing the Potential of Generative AI: Transforming Nursing Education Simulations and Beyond” at the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) annual convention in Tampa, Fla., Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

Rahman’s presentations will explore the transformative potential of using AI in nursing education. From AI-powered tools that analyze vast amounts of patient data and flag potential issues to virtual reality simulations that make learning more personalized and engaging, technology is empowering nurses with the knowledge and skills to deliver exceptional care.

“By incorporating tools like virtual reality (VR) simulations into our programs, students can practice critical clinical skills in a safe, controlled environment,” Rahman said. “The software adapts to the specific needs of an individual student, which will help them be better prepared to tackle these scenarios when they enter the workforce and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes.”

Blinn offers a variety of nursing career options, including Vocational Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing, both of which use VR trainings to complement their high-fidelity simulators. Current vocational nurses and paramedics also can earn an associate degree through transition programs, and numerous transfer opportunities provide associate degree graduates with a pathway to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and beyond.
