BURTON ISD TARGETING HOMECOMING FOR FIRST HOME FOOTBALL GAME ON NEW FIELD

Burton ISD is planning for the final regular season football game to be the first game played at its new stadium.

Burton ISD trustees on Monday recognized students
and staff members who participated at the
Washington County Fair. Students each gave brief
presentations on the projects they were involved in
at the fair.

During the bond construction update at Monday’s Burton School Board meeting, Superintendent Vikki Curry confirmed that November 1st is the planned date for the first game on the new field.  That night will also be Homecoming and Senior Night.

At last month’s board meeting, optimism was expressed for the possibility of hosting three home games.  Since then, however, there was a delay in receiving and inspecting supplies for the home-side bleachers and lighting.

Curry was asked by a member of the audience about how parking would look, since the full parking lot is not yet complete.  Curry said administrators are holding meetings with contractors to determine how to best accommodate visitors.

Randy Boone, Project Manager with Weaver & Jacobs Constructors, said the press box is now set and custom back seating is in.  The scoreboard is also up, but Boone said they are still working on final power connections.

Also at Monday’s meeting, trustees received the results of an intruder detection audit conducted by the state as per new safety requirements.  According to Curry, the only issue discovered was due to the district leaving pass-through doors unlocked for students, as the state now requires those doors to be locked.  She said the district worked with the Texas Education Agency auditor and Education Service Center Region VI representative to put a plan into place.

In action items, the board approved a fuel contract proposal from CR Texas.  With the three-year contract, the company will provide two 2,000 gallon, double-wall fuel tanks and fuel pumps, a fuel management system, service technicians for any issues that occur, and an inventory monitoring system that can be viewed remotely.

CR Texas will maintain the equipment for as long as the district buys fuel from the company, but the company will keep ownership of the fuel tanks.

The board also approved a School Health Advisory Council wellness policy and an item designating Austin County Extension Agents as adjunct staff members.
