The event invites students to participate in hands-on workshops designed to expand their understanding of the world of professional art.  Students enrolled in Brenham High School’s Level III-IV/AP art courses will take part in various activities that highlight the skills and careers associated with the arts.

During this year’s enrichment experience, students will interact with renowned muralists Toni Ardizzone and Floyd Mendoza, learning about the process behind creating large-scale public art.

Painting students will collaborate on a class mini-mural under the guidance of their painting teacher.  Sculpture students will visit the local studio of Doug Peck, where they will observe a Raku ceramic demonstration and contribute to a collaborative clay tile mosaic.  Drawing students will explore the history of photography in Brenham at the Brenham Heritage Museum, where they will learn about the connection between photography and mural art.

Savannah Nichols, lead art teacher at Brenham High School, said the event is “an amazing opportunity for our students to see what careers in the arts can look like outside the classroom.”  Texas Arts and Music Festival board member Brooke Trahan said the board enjoys “providing hands-on learning opportunities for our students and giving back to our local student art programs.”  She said the board has been able to maintain or increase its donations to the programs thanks to the continued support from sponsors and the community.

The Texas Arts and Music Festival runs Friday through Sunday in downtown Brenham, offering an art village with a variety of vendors, live painting exhibitions and live entertainment.  Proceeds from the event are directed towards supporting educational resources for arts and music programs in Washington County and the state of Texas.
