In September, the Blinn Board of Trustees authorized College administrators to negotiate the final terms and close on the purchase of the site in Waller-Harris County near Highway 290.  Today (Thursday), the College announced in a press release that the acquisition of the property, located at 29638 FM 2920, is now complete.

Blinn plans to develop the site with a comprehensive commuter campus that offers academic and workforce training programs.  The Waller-Harris County location will join Blinn’s Brenham, Bryan, RELLIS, Schulenburg and Sealy campuses.

Blinn Chancellor Dr. Mary Hensley said this “marks a historic moment for the Blinn College District and for the Waller-Harris County community.”  She said Blinn is “excited about the opportunities this new location will provide” and that “our future is brighter than ever.”

The exact amount paid for the property, according to information obtained from the College through an open records request, was $19,558,440 from Ramsey Leasing, Inc. and Peter S. Terpstra.

Blinn Communications Director Richard Bray previously said that the purchase and development of the property would use unrestricted reserve funds.  Washington County tax dollars will not be used, as that revenue is required by state law to be used for the maintenance and operations of campuses in Washington County.

The next step in the development process will be to create a programming and facilities plan to ensure the campus meets the needs of students and the community.  Blinn currently offers evening courses at Waller ISD facilities, and they will remain available as the College develops its new campus site.

    1. You might want to educate yourself on the value of property along fm 2920. Just down the road is a parcel 29 acres for sale 10.1 million. That is about $350k per acre. So Blinn got a deal. All along 2920 is new commercial and new housing developments. So Blinn truly got a deal. This is not some out in the middle of nowhere property. It is close to Waller high school and to the exit of 290. So in reality it is a great investment

      1. Is a community college a destination? Is a college something to build around? For a business it is location x3: for a college they make the location.
