BRENHAM CUBS SHUT OUT TEXAS CITY 38-0 TO WIN BI-DISTRICT
It was a big night for the Brenham Cub Football Team as they shutout the Texas City Stingarees 38-0 to win the Bi-District Championship in front of a packed house at Cub Stadium.
The Cubs got on the board early with a one-yard touchdown run by Jakoby Dixon. The two-point conversion attempt was no good, but Brenham still lead 6-0 with 7:09 left in the first quarter.
Xyran Upshaw would get the Cubs back into the end zone with a 10-yard touchdown run at the 1:21 mark. Dixon ran in the two-point conversion to give Brenham a 14-0 lead.
Bleu Cienega starting the second quarter scoring by nailing a 37-yard field goal to give the Cubs a 17-0 lead at 7:35.
Brenham would score one more time before the end of the half as Jordan Harvey found Chris Guidry on a 36-yard touchdown pass with just four seconds left. Cienega add the extra point to increase the Cub advantage to 24-0 as they went into the locker room.
In the third quarter, both teams played to a stalemate as neither found a way to put points on the board.
However, in the fourth quarter, Jakoby Dixon scored his second touchdown of the day on a one-yard run, and Cienega added the PAT to give Brenham a 31-0 lead with 11:21 left.
With that touchdown Dixon set a new school record for points scored in a season with 226. Floyd Sommer was the previous record holder with 223.
The Cubs scored one more time at the 10:21 mark on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Harvey to Cartelle Brown. Cienega kicked the extra point to increase the Brenham advantage to 38-0, which ended up being the final.
According Cub Football stats keeper and historian Michael Groves, this the first time since 91 years that a Brenham time has shut someone out in the playoffs. The previous time was the 1933 team, which beat Galena Park 20-0 that year.
Next week, the Cubs will face Liberty Hill in the Area Round of the Playoffs Friday November 22nd at 7pm at the PField in Pflugerville. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm.

I had to move away from Brenham a few years ago for a job, and I have missed being away and would love to move back. I drove in tonight to watch the Cubs play Texas City in their playoff game. I have always loved the way Brenham carried itself, but was disappointed in the pre-game music that was being played tonight over the loudspeakers. Have you listened to the actual words in some of these songs that are being played? Brenham has always prided themselves in keeping things old-school and different than every other school, like most in Houston and Austin. I hate to see this change. Different atmosphere than what they were always known for. Just one’s opinion. Go cubs!! Love ya, and hope you win tonight!
Since the embarrassment of the Gilmer game looks like the defense has gelled found the hole in the net and now enjoy the fruit of success. This lets the offense do their thing.
Congratulations to the the Cub team for a job well done keep up the containment and the rest will be history. Music to some is noise for others just the way it is sir!
I went to the game with some friends and it was great to see the Cubs looking so good. We almost didn’t stay for the game though; we got seated about 45 minutes before kickoff and had to endure ear-splitting horrible music for over half an hour. It was so loud you couldn’t even converse with friends, and the lyrics of the music were definitely not appropriate for a High School event. I’m not sure if I’ll ever go again, and if I do I will have ear plugs AND ear muffs. Who is responsible for the music and volume decisions, anyway?
GO CUBS, Beat Liberty Hill!
I totally agree. The music choice and the volume (from the press box) was inappropriate ! I was embarrassed for our school district.
Very proud of our CUBS !
