The City of Brenham’s annual Christmas Stroll and Lighted Parade will take place next Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th.  Many festivities are in store, including holiday shopping, a live concert, kids’ activities, the Christmas tree lighting at the courthouse square and the lighted parade through downtown.

Events start on Friday with shopping at the Jingle Bell Market at the Ant Street Inn from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The First Friday Farmer and Artisan Market will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Baylor and Park Streets.

That night will feature the return of the popular band, Suede, for a special “Cold Nights, Holiday Tunes” concert.  The free concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Commerce Street parking lot and is sponsored by Dahmann & Associates, Brenham National Bank, Must Be Heaven and Seidel Schroeder.

There will also be a showing Friday night at Unity Theatre of “Fruitcakes” at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s activities begin with Breakfast with Santa at The Barnhill Center.  Children will be able to have breakfast sponsored by McDonald’s in Brenham and enjoy kids’ activities, face painting and pictures with Santa.  Tickets are $15, and reservations are required in advance.

The Jingle Bell Market will open for more holiday shopping from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A Kid Zone from 1 to 4 p.m. in downtown will offer a snow village and life-sized snow globe for children to play in, sponsored by Kelli Dozier State Farm Insurance.

At 5 p.m., local Girl Scouts will gather at the courthouse for caroling and the lighting of the Christmas trees.  The lighted parade, which has a theme of “Peace on Earth”, begins at 6 p.m.

Following the parade, kids can sit with Santa at the courthouse gazebo and take rides on the 1950 Invader Fire Truck at the Brenham Fire Museum.  Another showing of “Fruitcakes” at Unity Theatre opens at 8 p.m.

KWHI’s Craig Montana will introduce Suede on stage for the concert on Friday.  KWHI and KTEX-106 will also be on hand to broadcast from the Christmas tree lighting and parade on Saturday.
