FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE DUPLEX FIRE IN BRENHAM
Washington County firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to a duplex fire in Brenham.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., the Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Pleasantview Avenue for a report of a structure fire. Units arrived on location to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the exterior of the duplex.
Fire command called for the Salem and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments to make location for manpower. The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to cover the Brenham Fire Station.
Brenham firefighters entered the duplex with a hand line and knocked the fire out, while Meyersville and Salem volunteers extinguished hot spots on the roof line and eves. There was heavy smoke and water damage to the unit, but firefighters kept it from spreading further. No injuries were reported.
The Brenham Fire Department had two other calls on Saturday, both false alarm calls to the Brenham State Supported Living Center.
Just past noon on Sunday, firefighters went out to a home in the 700 block of Legrand Street for a gas smell in the area. They made location to find nothing showing from the outside of the building, but the City of Brenham Gas Department discovered a small leak on the meter. The fire department returned to service.
Approaching 6:45 p.m., BFD members were called out to the 2500 block of South Day Street for a transportation incident. They arrived to find a single vehicle in the turn lane and spoke with the driver, who advised she was not in a wreck, but her vehicle had died. Firefighters pushed the vehicle out of the roadway before clearing the scene.
