FIVE CALLS WEDNESDAY, ONE EARLY THURSDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department received five calls on Wednesday and one early this (Thursday) morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters went out to the Blinn College Old Main Building, 705 High Street, for an alarm sounding.  They arrived on location to find light smoke inside the building.  Units discovered that the HVAC system was causing smoke, so they turned the breaker off and advised maintenance what was found.

A few minutes after 10 a.m., the department responded to a report of a structure fire at a home in the 1000 block of Fannin Street.  When firefighters arrived, they found smoke showing from the exterior of a single-story residence.  They entered the home and discovered fire in the attic.  Units extinguished the fire from inside the attic and ventilated the home by cutting a hole in the roof.  With assistance from the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department, they covered all belongings in the home to protect them from water damage.  All units then returned to service.

At 10:30 a.m., BFD members were dispatched to an alarm at a home in the 1900 block of Shady Lane.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the house when they made location.  After speaking with the homeowner, the department found no signs of smoke or fire and tried to reset the alarm.  Units returned to the station after the alarm was reset by an alarm company.

At 3:15 p.m., Brenham and Meyersville firefighters were called out to a grass fire in the 2000 block of Rau Road.  They made location and discovered a small grass fire in a ditch, moving towards a wooded area.  Brenham and Meyersville booster trucks put out the fire and cleared the scene.

At 9:30 p.m., BFD personnel received a report of a gas leak near a gas meter at a home in the 100 block of South Drumm Street.  Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department found a small leak on the meter, and the fire department returned to service while the gas department fixed the leak.

Just before 1:30 a.m. today, units were called out to a transportation incident in the 200 block of Highway 290 West.  There, they found a single-vehicle accident with no fluids leaking and proceeded to clean debris from the roadway, clearing the call once the vehicle was removed from the road.
