MULTIPLE FIRE DEPARTMENTS BATTLE EARLY MORNING BLAZE

Multiple fire departments battled an early morning blaze that destroyed a home in Old Washington.

The Washington Volunteer Fire Department, along with mutual aid from the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department were called out this (Thursday) morning shortly after 3am to a structure fire located in the 21700 Block of Old River Road.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find half of a house fully engulfed in flames, and that the roof had collapsed.

Fire Departments from Meyersville, Navasota, Salem, and Berlin were also called in to help battle the blaze.

According to the Chappell Hill VFD, everyone made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Washington County EMS, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington County Community Emergency Response Team.  

The Washington County Road and Bridge Department supplied a backhoe to help remove the collapsed roof.

After the flames were extinguished, the Washington Volunteer Fire Department remained on scene as fire watch for a couple of hours to make sure it did not re-ignite.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
