WASHINGTON CO. GO TEXAN BBQ COOK-OFF FRIDAY, SATURDAY

  

Washington County’s best BBQ-ers will gather this weekend at the annual Washington County Go Texan Cook-off Fundraiser. 

Activities begin tomorrow (Friday) and continue through Saturday at the La Bahia Hall in Burton on Highway 237.

The events tomorrow will include margaritas and the steak shoot-out.  Turn-in for margaritas is at 6:30 p.m., followed by steak shoot-out at 7:30 p.m.  Awards will be presented at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, following the chief cooks meeting at 9 a.m., judging gets underway with bloody marys at 10 a.m., then beans at 11 a.m., chili at noon, chicken at 1 p.m., ribs at 2:30 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m.  The final awards will be given out at 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the cook-off events, there will be several ticket drawings.  Guests are invited to bring their own beverages and coolers.

Proceeds will go toward the Washington County Go Texan youth scholarship fund.  The winners of the cook-off will represent Washington County at the 2026 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

Teams can sign up by calling Washington County Go Texan Chairman Bubba Herrin at 979-451-0050.  Registration will also be accepted at the event, but organizers seek to have all teams in by tomorrow night. 

Tickets remain available for another Go Texan fundraiser coming up next month.  

February 1st is the deadline to purchase tickets to the Valentine Ribeye Steak Dinner on Thursday, February 13th at the Fireman’s Training Center in Brenham.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and meals will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  There will also be ticket drawings and silent and live auctions.
