ALL AREA COUNTIES SHOW DROP IN UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FOR DECEMBER
Washington County and surrounding counties all reported lower unemployment rates from November to December.
Per data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s jobless rate fell from 4 percent in November to 3.5 percent in December.
The county’s number of unemployed residents dropped from 666 in November to 575 last month.
Overall employment grew from 16,052 people in November to 16,084 in December. However, the civilian labor force decreased over that time, from 16,718 to 16,659.
In December 2023, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.3 percent, with 527 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted unemployment rate for the month of December held steady at 4.2 percent.
Across the region, December unemployment rates include:
- Austin County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.9 percent in November.
- Brazos County – 2.6 percent, down from 3.1 percent.
- Burleson County – 3.1 percent, down from 3.8 percent.
- Colorado County – 2.9 percent, down from 3.5 percent.
- Fayette County – 2.9 percent, down from 3.5 percent in November.
- Grimes County – 3.7 percent, down from 4.3 percent.
- Lee County – 3 percent, down from 3.5 percent.
- Waller County – 4.7 percent, down from 5.2 percent.
