TWO NEWCOMERS FILE FOR BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD
Two new candidates have filed for election to the Brenham School Board.
David Jantzi is seeking the Position 5 seat held by Tommie Sullivan, while James “Mike” Garner is running for the Position 6 seat of Natalie Lange.
Neither Sullivan nor Lange has filed for re-election at this time. The only incumbent to file thus far is Jared Krenek for Position 7.
Jantzi’s career has included time as a teacher, coach and campus technology coordinator, as well as a medical office administrator. Jantzi previously ran for the school board in 2023, losing a tight race against Position 4 incumbent Kelvin Raven.
Garner is a director of projects in the oil and gas industry. Prior to moving to Brenham in the mid-2000s, he served as a member of the Giddings City Council and Giddings Volunteer Fire Department.
Friday, February 14th is the last day to file for candidacy in the May 3rd election.
In Brenham ISD, teachers make 8.28% below the state average. In the same district, central office staff makes 13.26% above the state average. After years of service to the district and consistently excellent results in the classroom, I left the district due to the poor pay and lack of opportunities. There has been a mass exodus of successful teachers like myself who have left for similar reasons and you see it reflected in the declining performance of the district. Meanwhile, the school board enables this disparity to happen while the teachers can’t even get a cost of living raise. The school board and administration continue to pat each other on the back while the teachers get the shaft. I’ve heard the same line for nearly 20 years from the school board and administration: “We’re going to do something for teachers…” But it never happens. New administrative positions are created all the time and relatives of the “important” people get those high-paying jobs while the teachers on the front lines, day in and day out, get nothing but empty promises.
Sounds familiar! I know district that works the same way! Administration and school board get praised while staff gets nothing!!
Now we need some contested races for Brenham City Council. It is time to clean house!!
