BRENHAM ISD STUDENTS EXCEL IN SCHOLASTIC ART COMPETITION

Several Brenham ISD art students have earned recognition for their work in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition.

Brenham ISD students competed against thousands of other participants in the South Art Region-At-Large, comprised of schools in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Two Brenham students are winners of the Gold Key award and will advance to the national round of judging in New York City in May.

Heily Mellado, a senior, received the Gold Key award for her drawing and illustration, titled, “Could I Fix This?”

Ava Boothe, a sophomore, won the Gold Key award for her photograph, titled, “The Returning of Balance”.

In addition, Mellado was an Honorable Mention recipient for her photograph, “Morning Routine”, and her painting portfolio, “We Are What We Eat”.

Two other students received Honorable Mentions: senior Nevaeh Jackson for his photograph, “Secret Within The Pages”, and junior Carnell Burns for his painting, “E kanu”.

The students are led by instructor Savannah Nichols.

Brenham ISD says, “This is an incredible accomplishment, and we couldn’t be more proud of these students for their talent, creativity, and hard work!”
