In a press release on Tuesday, the ministry said it seeks to rebuild on the vacant lot next to The Corner Shoppe at the intersection of East Burton Street and North Brazos Street.  As for the existing pantry space at 601 North Main Street, the buyer will open a home décor store and plans to restore the building.

Burton Bridge Ministry Board President Barbara Donnelly said this change will “really help the Burton community with jobs, the City’s tax base, and supporting other area businesses.”  She said it will also add value to Burton’s Commercial Historic District.

The ministry said it will strive to blend in with its residential neighbors, including incorporating a residential feel with the façade facing North Brazos Street and moving all pantry traffic to the back parking lot near Goldberg’s Garage.  Wholesale food deliveries are made on the first and third Fridays of each month, and the delivery truck driver has been instructed to access the parking lot from North Main Street, avoiding North Brazos Street.

The pantry is open nine hours a week and operates at times different from The Corner Shoppe and neighboring White Horse Tavern, which the ministry said should prevent any problems with traffic or congestion.

The ministry is engaging the same contractors and advisers who built the organization’s furniture store: JRS Construction, Blakey Land Surveying, Lucherk’s Services LLC, Baylor Lumber, Lauren Concrete, MMI Construction, A. Trujillo Plumbing, DDM Buildings, Heaton Electric and Sendero Technical Services.

Representing the Burton Bridge Ministry in the project are Peter Boudreaux as construction liaison, and Blake Emmett to advise on storm water management.

Construction is planned for late this spring and early this summer.
