WATER SERVICE OUT FOR CITY OF BURTON
The City of Burton is working to restore water to residents and businesses after losing service this (Thursday) morning.
Burton Mayor Karen Buck sent out a release saying that the city’s water system lost pressure in the early morning hours, eventually leading to all water in the city’s storage tanks and lines emptying.
After checking with a utility contractor and water well contractor, it was found that the city’s water well, the only water supply source for Burton, had an electric outage in the pump. Buck said the water well contractor will arrive later today to work on the well.
Citizens will need to purchase and supply their own water for home use, including for consumption, flushing toilets and doing laundry. Burton ISD has cancelled classes for today.
Once the water supply is restored, Buck said the town will be under a boil water notice. Customers will receive the official notice once water service is running normally again.
Buck said the city will send out updates as it receives more information and thanks the public for its patience.
Below is the full notice provided by Mayor Buck:
Very early this morning, the City of Burton’s water system lost pressure. Eventually, all water in our storage tanks and lines was emptied. The Utility Contractor was called and on site to determine the cause. A secondary call was made to a water well contractor who confirmed the issue. There is an electrical outage in the pump down in Water Well #4. This well is our only water supply source.
The water well contractor will be here later this morning to work on the well. We will know more as the day progresses and will send an update to you as soon as possible.
Burton ISD has cancelled classes for the day.
Please be advised that the City of Burton does not have water. You will need to purchase and supply drinking water for your home use. It also means that you will not have water to flush toilets or do laundry.
When the water supply is restored, the entire town will be on a Boil Water Notice. Water customers will receive that official notice once the water supply has been restored.
Thank you for your patience as contractors and city staff work to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.
