BLINN SOFTBALL BATTLES BUT DROPS ROAD DOUBLEHEADER TO NO. 13 TRINITY VALLEY
The Buccaneers visit Tyler Junior College for a twin bill on Saturday
The Blinn College softball team was swept in a doubleheader against host and 13th-ranked Trinity Valley Community College on Friday in Athens, Texas.
The Cardinals took game one 11-3 in sixth innings before ending the day with a 6-3 victory.
The Buccaneers are now 2-7 overall.
Blinn got off to a good start in the opener, with freshman Cadence Wiese starting the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the first inning.
The Cardinals battled back to take a 4-1 lead in the second frame, but the Bucs kept fighting.
In the third, a single, walk, and hit batsman loaded the bases for Blinn before sophomore Bailey Boetjer hit an RBI single and sophomore T’Era Garrett made it 4-3 with a sacrifice fly.
That was as close as the visitors would come, however, as Trinity Valley pulled away with a six-run fourth frame. The Cardinals ended the game with a solo tally in the sixth.
Blinn finished with six hits, including two apiece for freshman Halle Scheel and sophomore Darian DeLeon.
Freshman starting pitcher Brynn Gallamore worked 3 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Bucs.
In game two, Blinn held an early 3-0 lead before Trinity Valley rallied down the stretch to earn the sweep.
In the first inning, Wiese opened the scoring with an RBI single, Boetjer added a sacrifice fly, and Garrett drove in a run on a single to make it 3-0.
The Cardinals cut into the Bucs’ advantage with two runs in the third frame before tying the game in the fourth. Trinity Valley seized the lead in the fifth inning and tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth.
The Bucs finished with six hits, led by a two-hit game for Boetjer.
Sophomore Paige Bunting was the pitcher of record for Blinn after she tossed a complete game. She allowed five earned runs, struck out five, and walked three.
Next up, the Bucs stay on the road as they visit Tyler Junior College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Tyler, Texas.
