BETH ROTHERMEL TO RETIRE AS WASHINGTON CO. CLERK
Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel is preparing to retire after a 30-year career in county government.
During this (Tuesday) morning’s county commissioners meeting, the county shared a press release announcing Rothermel’s plans to retire effective March 28th.
Rothermel first entered office in 1995, and her current term expires at the end of 2026. As county clerk, she handled the county’s official public records and oversaw the preservation of Washington County’s earliest documents, while working to improve office efficiency and cost-effectiveness through new technology. For many years, she also coordinated local elections.
Rothermel called it “an honor and a privilege” to work in Washington County. She said she is ready to spend more time with family, adding, “You’ll know when it’s time, and I feel that time is now.”
Rothermel expressed gratitude to the citizens for allowing her the opportunity to serve, as well as the team of staff members, elected officials and department heads she has worked with through the years. She said the staff is “well-trained and prepared to support a seamless transition” and has “full confidence in the Commissioners Court’s ability to appoint a qualified interim County Clerk.”
County Judge John Durrenberger thanked Rothermel for her friendship and professionalism, saying she was “very accommodating and educational” in his first years in office and that she is “well-respected throughout the state.”
A reception for Rothermel is scheduled for March 21st from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
Thank you for your service.
