CUBETTES OPEN SEASON WITH A 3-0 SHUTOUT OF CALDWELL
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team got the season started off on a good note with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Caldwell Lady Hornets last (Monday) night at Weiss Field.
Freshman Laityn Davis picked up the win in the circle. She got the start and pitched three innings allowing just one walk. Junior Kylie Baker came on to pitch the final four innings and get the save. Baker also didn't give up any runs. She allowed only two walks and Caldwell's lone hit, an infield single to lead off the bottom of the seventh. The duo also combined for ten strikeouts, three by Davis and seven by Baker.
The Cubettes got the scoring started in the top of the second inning. Davis reached on a one-out single and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Brenham would get two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Liliana Gonzales struckout, but reached first base on passed ball on the third strike followed by an overthrow. She would later take second base on a wild pitch.
Pinch-hitter Sloan Tucker brought home Gonzales with an RBI single to make it 2-0 Brenham.
Aldyn Jaks reached on a fielder's choice, and would then come in to score on an RBI single by Avery Maurer to give the Cubettes a 3-0 lead.
Next up, Brenham will be hosting their annual Leadoff Classic this weekend. Games will be played at Alumni Field and Hohlt Park.
