FORTNIGHTLY CLUB BOOK SALE RAISES THOUSANDS FOR BRENHAM LIBRARY
The Fortnightly Club of Brenham brought thousands of people to the Washington County Expo this past week for the club’s annual Used Book Sale.
Each year, the organization supports the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library with the sale, which offers countless varieties of books, movies, vinyl records, CDs, games and other items.
Lu Hollander, Second Vice President and Past President for the Fortnightly Club, estimates the club raised $35,000 in gross revenue, before expenses. She says despite the cold weather experienced last week, the sale continues to draw dedicated supporters from all around.
Hollander thanks all the members of the club and other groups like the Blinn College soccer and football teams, as well as Brenham High School AVID students, who contributed toward preparations for the sale by cleaning, sorting and pricing books.
The Fortnightly Club meets the second Thursday of every month and plans to hold its spring luncheon in May, where the club will present the City of Brenham with the proceeds from the sale.
The club also has a donation drop-off available at its book house at 906 North Park Street in Brenham.
