BRENHAM CUBETTES SPLIT GAMES ON DAY ONE OF THE LIBERTY TOURNAMENT
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team split their games on the first day of the Liberty Tournament earlier today (Thursday). The Cubettes joined the field after last week's tournament at Dripping Springs was rained out.
In their first game of the day, Brenham defeated the Dayton JV 13-0 in a game that only went three innings. Avery Maurer reached on a single to get things started. She then stole second, went to third on an error, and scored on a second error to give the Cubettes an early 1-0 lead. Sarah Mabie followed by drawing a walk. McKenzie Tiemann reached by beating out a bunt for an infield hit. Kinley Antkowiak reached on error that also allowed Mabie to score. Tiemann would score on an error as well that made it 3-0. Laityn Davis singled home Antkowiak. Aldyn Jaks came in to courtesy run for Davis, and scored on an RBI single by Harper Castillo to give the Cubettes a 5-0 lead.
Brenham would tack on an additional five runs in the second inning. Sloan Tucker drew a walk. Jacee Hegar came in to run for Tucker, stole second, went to third on an error, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ali Tiemann. Maurer followed with a double. Mabie reached on an error that allowed Maurer to come all the way around and add another run to make it 7-0 Cubettes. Mabie came home on an RBI groundout by McKenzie Tiemann. Antkowiak singled, and stole second. Kyla Garcia singled, and then on another error Antkowiak came in to score. Davis singled in Garcia to give Brenham a 10-0 lead.
The Cubettes got the scoring started in the third with Tucker hitting a sacrifice fly to score Castillo. Maurer singled, and Mabie hit into a fielder's choice. McKenzie Tiemann followed with a single that brought home Maurer and Mabie to make it 13-0 Brenham.

However, in the bottom of the third inning, Grand Oaks would blow it open with nine runs to take a 10-1 lead.
The Cubettes would come back with five runs in the top of the fourth. Castillo doubled and Maurer walked. Mabie singled home Castillo to cut the lead to 10-2. McKenzie Tiemann doubled to left, which brought home Maurer and Mabie to make it 10-4. Tiemann then road home on a two-run homer by Antkowiak, which made it 10-6, but that would be as close as they would get.
Davis was tagged with the loss in the circle after surrendering all ten runs, but because of errors, only three of them were earned.
