CUBETTES PICK UP TWO WINS ON DAY TWO OF THE LIBERTY TOURNAMENT

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team earned a pair of one-run victories on day two of the Liberty Tournament.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Brenham would get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Laityn Davis drew a two-out walk. Aldyn Jaks came in to pinch-run. Harper Castillo followed with an RBI single, and on a pair of errors by the Lady Falcons, Jaks was able to circle the bases and score to tie the game at 1-1.

The Cubettes took the lead with three runs in the top of the 5th inning. Ali Tiemann led it off with a single, and then Avery Maurer beat out a bunt for a hit. McKenzie Tiemann brought them both home with a two-run triple. Tiemann later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kinley Antkowiak to give Brenham a 4-1 lead.

Huffman Hargrave rallied with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to tie 4-4. It would stay that way until the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning, with Jacee Hegar on base, Maurer slugged a two-run homer to give the Cubettes a 6-4 lead. The Lady Falcons only got one of those runs back in the bottom of the seventh as Brenham held on for the win.

Laityn Davis got the win in relief after allowing three hits and three unearned runs over the final three innings.

Brenham started off their second game of the day with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Sarah Mabie singled and McKenzie Tiemann reached on an error. Kinley Antkowiak hit and RBI single to score Mabie with the first run of the game. Tiemann later came home on an RBI groundout by Laityn Davis to make it 2-0 Cubettes.

It would stay that way until the Lady Hawks came back with two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.

The Cubettes manufactured a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth to re-take the lead. McKenzie Tiemann reached on an error. Antkowiak followed with a single. Then, on a double steal, Tiemann scored, and on an error by the Hawks, Antkowiak moved to third. She later scored on a suicide squeeze by Laityn Davis to put Brenham in front 4-2.

Hardin-Jefferson got a run back in the 6th to make it 4-3, but that would be as close as they would get. Kylie Baker would get the last three outs in the circle to preserve the Brenham win.
