CUBS COME BACK FOR TWO WINS AT CORPUS CHRISTI TOURNAMENT
After dropping their first two games at the Corpus Christi Tournament on Thursday, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team bounced back with a pair of wins today (Friday).
CUBS 16 CORPUS CHRISTI MILLER 1
Owen Finke got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. He reached on an bunt single, took second on a passed ball, and then scored on an RBI single by Drake Bentke. Luke Hardy walked and Cannon Credeur single to load the bases. Barrett Kohring would then draw a bases loaded walk that scored Bentke to make it 2-0 Cubs. Blaine Bartlett was hit by a pitch, which allowed Hardy to score. Caleb Maurer singled home Credeur, and then on a Bucs error, Kohring also scored. That made it 5-0 Brenham after one inning.
Miller got one of those runs back in the top of the second, but the Cubs would bust it open with eleven runs in the bottom of the inning. Finke singled, and then scored on an RBI triple by Bentke. Austin Maurer followed with an RBI triple of his own to score Bentke. Kaden Flisowski brought in Maurer on a sacrifice fly to increase the Brenham lead to 8-1.
Cameron Reese reached on a catcher's interference, and later came around to score on an RBI double by Kohring. Kohring later scored on a passed ball. Bartlett and Caleb Maurer both walked. Grady Gee came in to courtesy run for Bartlett, and scored on an RBI single by Dalton Hart. Finke then slugged a two-run triple that scored Maurer and Hart to make it 13-1 in favor of the Cubs.
Finke scored on an RBI groundout by Bentke. Austin Maurer was hit by a pitch, Flisowski walked, and Reese was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Maurer and Flisowski scored on an error by the Bucs to make it a 16-1 game.
The game was called after just two and a half innings. Brady Boenker pitched the first two, and Logan Mason closed it out in the third.

Laredo United got the second game scoring started with an unearned run off of Cub Starting Pitcher Brayden Steele in the bottom of the first. After that, it was all Brenham.
The Cubs loaded the bases in the top of the second inning after Cannon Credeur reached on an error, Evan Curtis singled, and Barrett Kohring was hit by a pitch. Caleb Maurer drew a walk that allowed Credeur to score to tie it 1-1.
Dalton Hart followed with a two-run single that allowed Curtis and Kohring to score, which gave Brenham a 3-1 lead. Brody Tucker reached on a bunt single, and on an error Maurer scored. Landry Mendoza singled home Hart to increase the Cub lead to 5-1.
Brenham would score three more runs in the top of the third inning. Curtis walked, and Kohring singled. They both moved up on a passed ball. Caleb Maurer then ripped an opposite field single to score them both. Two batters later, Drake Bentke brought home Maurer with an RBI double to put the Cubs up 8-1.
Steele went the first 4 2/3 innings to get the win. Sterling Scheffer came in to get the last out and preserve the victory. The tournament wraps up tomorrow (Saturday). The Cubs will play against an opponent to be determined.
