BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS TO GRASS FIRE, BURNING BRUSH PILE TUESDAY

The Brenham Fire Department responded to four calls on Tuesday.

Close to 8:30 a.m., units were called out to a crash at Highway 290 and James Nutt Boulevard.  They made location to find a one-vehicle accident and proceeded to provide traffic control and clean up debris from the roadway.  Once the vehicle was removed, the department returned to service.

Around 2:15 p.m., BFD members were dispatched to a smoke investigation on Kuhn Lane.  Upon arrival, they discovered a fast-moving grass fire in a tree line that jumped the railroad tracks.  Brenham units, joined by the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, used tank water and handlines to extinguish the fire.  Once it was out and mop-up was completed, all firefighters cleared the scene.

Just before 3 p.m., Brenham firefighters and members of the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department were called out to the 11000 block of FM 1371 for a possible structure fire.  Chappell Hill made location and found a small grass fire, so they cancelled Brenham’s response.

At 3 p.m., personnel went out for a smoke investigation along FM 109 and found two large brush piles burning.  Brenham received assistance from Salem, and the two departments used tank water and handlines to put out the brush piles.  Once they were extinguished, Salem released Brenham units from the call.
