BRENHAM JUNIOR HIGH BANDS EARN TOP RATINGS AT UIL COMPETITION

The Brenham Junior High School bands earned top honors across the board for their performances at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluations held in Waller on Tuesday.

The Symphonic Band, 4th Period and 6th Period Concert Bands all received first division ratings from each judge, the highest possible rating.  This is the first time in over a decade that Brenham Junior High has taken three performing bands to UIL, and all three earned superior ratings.

During the contest, each band performed three prepared pieces for a panel of judges before moving on to the sightreading portion, where they had eight minutes to learn a brand-new piece for three additional judges.

The Symphonic Band is directed by Karla Rettig, while the 4th Period Concert Band is directed by Chris Schramme and the 6th Period Concert Band is directed by Joshua Turnipseed.

Rettig says it is “truly special” to see the hard work, dedication and talent of students recognized at this high level.  She says she and the other junior high band directors are grateful for the support shown by band families and the Brenham community as a whole.

The Brenham Junior High Band will wrap up the spring semester with a concert on May 20th in the Brenham High School Auditorium.
