CUBS DROP ALUMNI TOURNAMENT OPENER TO FULSHEAR 9-3
The Fulshear Chargers spoiled the first home game for the Brenham Cub Baseball Team by winning their Brenham Alumni Tournament opener this (Thursday) afternoon, 9-3.
The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Brody Tucker reached on a single. Caleb Maurer came in as a courtesy runner, and after a throwing error by Fulshear's pitcher ended up going all the way to third base. Maurer then scored on a sacrifice fly by Landry Mendoza to give Brenham a 1-0 lead.
Fulshear came back with a couple of runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Cubs would tie it 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Dalton Hart drew a walk, and Brody Tucker laid down a sacrifice bunt to get him into scoring position. Hart would later score on an RBI single by Mendoza.
The Chargers' offense would break the game wide open with two runs in the fourth inning, four runs in the fifth inning, and one run in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 9-2. Fulshear took advantage of seven Cub errors in the field.
Brenham would get one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cannon Credeur drew a walk, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Owen Finke to make it 9-3
The Cubs used four pitchers in the game. Brett Campbell took the loss in relief. Of the nine runs given up, only four were earned.
