CUBETTES WIN 11-10 DISTRICT THRILLER OVER MONTGOMERY
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team survived a late comeback by Montgomery to earn their first district win 11-10 tonight (Friday) at Alumni Field in front of a packed house on Parents Night.
The Cubettes jumped out to an early lead on a solo homer by Avery Maurer in the bottom of the first inning. McKenzie Tiemann and Kinley Antkowiak walked, and Kylie Baker singled to load the bases. Sloan Tucker came in to run for Baker. Aldyn Jaks and Laityn Davis drew back-to-back bases loaded walks that scored Tiemann and Antkowiak to give Brenham a 3-0 lead. Stella Landry hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Tucker to score. Harper Castillo followed with a single to score Jaks, and give the Cubettes a 5-0 lead.
Brenham added another run in the bottom of the second. Maurer singled, stole second, and came around on an RBI double by Sarah Mabie to make it 6-0 Cubettes.
The barrage continued in the bottom of third as Brenham added four runs to take a 10-0 lead. Jaks led it off with a triple. Davis walked for the second time. She and Jaks then executed a double steal with Jaks scoring. Castillo added another RBI single to bring home Davis. Maurer reached on an error that allowed Castillo to score. Antkowiak singled home Maurer to cap off the inning.
Montgomery was not done though. They came back with two runs in the top of the fourth, six runs in the top of sixth, and then tied it with two more runs in the top of the seventh, 10-10.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Castillo reached on an error. Maurer finished off her big night with a walk-off RBI triple to give the Cubettes an 11-10 victory.
Kylie Baker put in a gutsy performance in the circle to get the win. Due to errors, out of Montgomery's ten runs, only two were earned.
Next up for the Cubettes, they will travel to Huntsville on Tuesday afternoon for 1:30pm game.
