MARCH SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, DOWN FOR BURTON
Sales and tax distributions for the month of March are up for Washington County and the City of Brenham, but down for the City of Burton.
Washington County’s rebate this month came out to $364,856, up 14.41 percent from the $318,884 received in March 2024. So far this year, the county has collected $1,249,280, 10.21 percent more than the $1,133,513 it took in through the first three months of last year.
The City of Brenham’s rebate for March was $792,704, which is up 10.66 percent from last March, when it brought in $716,326. Through 2025, the city has received $2,846,911, an increase of 13.39 percent from the $2,510,564 in rebates through March 2024.
The City of Burton saw a steep reduction of 73.95 percent from March 2024’s record-setting rebate of $29,912, as it received a much more modest sum of $7,789 this month. As such, the city’s year-to-date collections are also down, with the $34,383 taken in so far this year being a drop of 36.67 percent from the $54,298 received through March of last year.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported state payouts of $1.1 billion for March, up 10.2 percent from March 2024 and up 6.7 for the year to date.
March’s allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
