BRENHAM ISD INVESTIGATING ALLEGATIONS OF ‘PHYSICAL MISHANDLING’ OF STUDENT AT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Brenham ISD is investigating claims of a teacher involved in the “physical mishandling of a student” on Monday in a Brenham Middle School classroom.

Brenham ISD Chief Communications and Engagement Officer Brooke Trahan says the district is reviewing the matter with its Human Resources Department, in accordance with district policy and state law.

Trahan says the district does not comment on matters involving student or personnel discipline, so no additional details can be released.  She also says the district’s standard protocol may result in staff members being placed on administrative leave, and that this is “a precautionary measure to ensure a thorough review and is not an assumption of guilt.”

City of Brenham Communications and Public Relations Manager Melinda Gordon says the police department has no reports filed on the incident at this time.

Full statement from Brenham ISD:

“The district prioritizes student safety and security. As part of standard protocol, staff members may be placed on administrative leave during an investigation involving interactions with students. This action is a precautionary measure to ensure a thorough review and is not an assumption of guilt. While we understand the public interest, the district does not comment on matters involving student or personnel discipline to protect the privacy of individuals and ensure a fair process. We can confirm that the matter is being reviewed by our Human Resources Department in accordance with district policy and state law. At this time, no additional details will be released. We appreciate your understanding as we remain focused on maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.”
