Stratton Scheffer, a member of Washington County 4-H and the son of Stephen and Deanna Scheffer, showed a champion market steer and advanced to the market steer auction. Over 2,000 steers were exhibited at this year’s show.
Stratton showed a Simbrah cross calf, bred and raised by his father, and went on to earn first place in the Simbrah breed division’s heavy weight class, out of 36 cattle. This earned Stratton the coveted “H” brand and a sale spot in the market auction.
Stratton then competed in the breed division drive, where his steer, named Ping Pong, was selected as the Champion Simbrah steer. At the market auction, he landed a final bid of $110,000 for Ping Pong, purchased by Kim and Richard Roland of Round Top Vineyards; Donna, Kim and Mark Lee; Pat and Mike Hyme; and Sheryl and Gary Deicher.
