BURTON ISD INVESTIGATES REPORT OF ‘POTENTIAL THREAT OF VIOLENCE’
Burton ISD is communicating with families after investigating a “potential threat of violence.”
The district sent out letters informing of an incident on Wednesday where a student made an inappropriate statement that was reported as a possible violent threat. Burton ISD administrators and the School Resource Officer proceeded to launch an investigation.
Superintendent Vikki Curry said the school threat assessment committee has addressed the situation, and that the student did not pose any threat to the safety of the school.
Burton ISD reminds all parents and guardians to maintain open communication regarding safety and to report any threats or concerning behaviors that they or their children become aware of. Reports can be made to the district directly or by submitting a statement through the Bully Complaint/Violence Form at www.burtonisd.net, under the student and parent tabs.
The district also invites families to speak with their children about appropriate behavior, both in-person and online, in order to help them recognize the impact their words can have and reduce the chance for misunderstandings that could be perceived as threats.
Curry said the district aims to keep parents and guardians informed and encourages their continued support and involvement in this matter.
