CUBS WIN PITCHERS’ DUEL WITH HUNTSVILLE 2-0
While the rains did force several postponements, the Brenham Cubs were able to get their game in with Huntsville last (Friday) night. Brenham's Dawson Keim and Huntsville's Noah Nieto engaged in quite a pitchers' duel with Keim and the Cubs coming out on top 2-0.
Both pitchers threw complete games and only allowed two hits and two walks a piece. However, Brenham managed to score two runs in the top of the fifth inning that would turn out to be the difference.
Evan Curtis led off the inning by drawing a walk. Brody Hemann came in to pinch run. Brady Rau reached on an error when the Hornets mishandled his bunt attempt. Barrett Kohring laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. Hemann then came home to score the first run of the game on an RBI groundout by Caleb Maurer. Dalton Hart followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Rau to make it 2-0 Brenham.
That would be all they needed. With the win, Keim improved to 5-1 on the season. He also lowered his ERA to 0.71.
The win improves Brenham to 13-8-1 on the season, and 4-2 in District 17-5A. They are one game behind Lake Creek for first place.
Next up, the Cubs travel to A&M Consolidated on Tuesday for a 7pm game. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm.
