MULTIPLE PEOPLE INJURED DURING STOLEN TRUCK PURSUIT
Several people were injured on Friday night when the driver of a stolen truck and trailer struck multiple vehicles in Navasota while trying to escape law enforcement.
Just before 10pm, the Navasota Police Department was notified that a stolen truck and trailer out of Washington County was traveling eastbound on Highway 105 toward Navasota. As officers attempted to respond, dispatch received multiple reports that the stolen vehicle was striking other vehicles and unable to maintain its lane.
As officers approached the area of Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street, the stolen truck struck a vehicle near Nolan and Washington, spun out, and crashed into a building in the 500 block of East Washington. The driver, who was found to be under the influence, was detained.
NPD officers began assessing the victims involved in the crashes. The driver of the stolen truck was transported to a Bryan hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another individual from a vehicle struck near Nolan Street was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two additional occupants from a separate collision were treated at the scene.
The crashes spanned from the Pecan Lakes subdivision area to the final crash site in the 500 block of East Washington Avenue. In total, five vehicles were struck along the route. Additionally, a light pole and a building sustained damage as a result of the incident.
Washington County deputies arrived on the scene to assist. The truck and trailer had been reported stolen just moments before the crash sequence began. Charges against the suspect are pending as the investigation continues.
