BRAZOS RIVER AUTHORITY, CITY OF BRENHAM INITIATE STAGE 1 DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN
The City of Brenham is enacting Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan.
The city is responding after the Brazos River Authority (BRA) announced the implementation of Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan for Lake Somerville, due to current drought conditions.
Voluntary water use restrictions are now in effect:
Landscape Irrigation Schedule:
- Even-numbered addresses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8): Water only on Sundays and Thursdays;
- Odd-numbered addresses (1, 3, 5, 7, 9): Water only on Saturdays and Wednesdays;
- Watering is permitted only between midnight to 10 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to midnight on designated days.
City Operations:
- City facilities will follow Stage 2 water restrictions, including reduced hours at the city splash pad. The splash pad opened today (Tuesday) with hours of 9 – 11 a.m. and 4 – 7 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 – 6 p.m. on Sundays;
- Hohlt Park will remain under Stage 1 restrictions.
Water Conservation Encouraged:
- All water customers are strongly encouraged to conserve water and limit non-essential water use.
The city says the public’s cooperation is essential to preserving the community’s water supply.

Here’s a concern that should be checked out. With all the oil or gas drilling that was done way back in past years there may be hidden dangers in the sediments. If the lake is dug out to make it deeper to hold more water, this could release harmful heavy metals, chemicals, etc . It’s worth looking into before any dredging or digging.
Probably going down because of all the water there taking out of the lake for the purpose of fracking.

I concur with Brad what are they waiting for a better day? Dig it out now and that alone would improve the quality of the water long term plus the surplus. Lake Somerville is very shallow for a lake more like a giant mudhole. New slogan Lake Somerville dig it!
If they wouldn’t let water out every time it looks like a cloud in the sky to keep the lake below normal it wouldn’t be low now, selling water downstream has led to this now.
