ACCIDENTS, BATHROOM FIRE AMONG FIVE CALLS SATURDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls on Saturday.
Around 9 a.m., the department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a home in the 900 block of Ewing Street. Personnel found nothing showing from the exterior of the home. Upon entering, they discovered a light haze being caused by the A/C unit, so they turned the breakers off to the A/C and advised the homeowner what they found.
At 8:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the Mill Creek Residence Hall, 1192 Old Mill Creek Road. Nothing was showing from the outside of the building, and firefighters ultimately found that the alarm went off because of a student smoking in their room. The department ventilated the room and reset the alarm system.
Just before 10 p.m., units were called out to a transportation incident in the 3700 block of Highway 36 South. They found a two-vehicle accident with injuries and proceeded to help EMS with patient care and mitigate the fluids that leaked. After both vehicles were removed from the roadway, the department returned to service.
Approaching 11:15 p.m., another transportation incident was reported in the 400 block of Highway 290 West. There, BFD members discovered a two-vehicle accident with injuries. They cleaned the roadway off and returned to the station once the vehicles were removed.
Just shy of 11:45 p.m., the department went out to the 800 block of West Second Street for a report of a structure fire. Units arrived to find a three-story dormitory with nothing showing from the exterior of the building, but they later found an extinguished fire in the bathroom. Brenham firefighters ventilated the building along with volunteers from the Salem and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments, while the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department backfilled the Brenham Fire Station. After the building was ventilated, all units cleared the scene.
