GAMECHANGERS HELPING BRENHAM STUDENTS LEARN REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE
Brenham High School students had the opportunity to gain real-world experience this spring through a series of events designed to help them succeed beyond the classroom.
The hands-on activities were made possible by Brenham GameChangers through partnerships with community members and local businesses.
The first event was a special Etiquette Lunch on February 19 featuring guest etiquette coach Dea Polk. A group of sophomores attended a three-course lunch while learning the basics of proper dining etiquette, professional behavior, and how to make a great first impression in social and business settings.
The next session was on February 25, Polk met with students from the junior class to offer guidance on how to build strong resumes and prepare for job interviews. The following day, individuals from local businesses and organizations volunteered their time to conduct mock interviews with students. This gave students the chance to practice real-life interview skills, and receive feedback from professionals in a variety of industries.
The final event was “Practical Skills Day” on March 28, which was attended by all 343 members of the Senior class.
The session was filled with life lessons that students can use for years to come such as self defense basics, banking and insurance tips, how to change a tire and use common household tools, dressing professionally for interviews, and healthy recipes and wellness tips.
Brenham High School Principal Michael Watts and Assistant Principal Courtney Mason said that they were grateful to their partners in the community for helping students learn important skills that will prepare them for life after high school.
