FORMER NAVASOTA TEACHER SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR SHARING CHILD SEX ABUSE MATERIAL
A former Navasota High School teacher is headed to federal prison after being sentenced on charges of sharing images of child sexual abuse material.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office on Monday announced a 5-year sentence for 31-year-old Daniel Byrd of College Station, who pleaded guilty in November. Byrd was arrested in March 2023 after an FBI investigation.
As part of Byrd’s sentence, he was ordered to serve 10 years on supervised release after his prison term. He must also register as a sex offender and comply with requirements restricting his access to children and the internet.
Investigation began after authorities learned Byrd had shared multiple images containing child sex abuse material through online platforms like Telegram and Kik. Officials seized his electronic devices after obtaining a search warrant.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Byrd admitted to using a cloud-based storage and file hosting service to save the material and sending it to others through links.
Byrd was previously released on bond, but was taken into custody after Monday’s sentencing and will be transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility in the near future.
