(Grimes County Sheriff's Office)

The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office announced the acquisition of new equipment to help improve their deputies’ ability to respond to high-risk situations while also ensuring their safety.

According to Sheriff Don Sowell, they have been diligently collaborating with the Office of the Governor and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments to secure various grants.

After several months of dedicated effort and coordination, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office has successfully obtained 22 rifle-rated ballistic shields and 10 Motorola body cameras.

The addition of ballistic shields will provide vital protection in potentially dangerous scenarios, allowing deputies to approach such situations with greater confidence and security.

Furthermore, the implementation of body cameras will enhance transparency, accountability, and the overall integrity of their operations by capturing accurate and reliable footage of interactions with the public.

Sowell gave a special thanks to Chief Deputy Martha Smith for all her hard work in coordinating the grant process.
