PANTHERS EARN DISTRICT SWEEP OVER SOMERVILLE

The Burton Panther Baseball Team downed the Somerville Yeguas 10-0 last (Friday) night to earn a sweep in their District 26-2A series.

Tyler Witt got the win on the hill after pitching a complete game one-hit shutout. He also struckout 17 batters along the way.

The game was scoreless until the top of third inning. Witt reached on a walk, stole second, and stole third. Then, he came home with the first run of the game after Rueben Rodriguez reached on an error by the Yeguas to make it 1-0.

Burton added two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Rueben Rodriguez tripled, and then scored on an RBI single by Eli Jaeger. Jaeger then stole second, and took third on a passed ball. He would then come home on a squeeze bunt by Ryder Biggs to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Burton would then bust the game open with four runs in the sixth inning. Witt, Logun Tosta, and Rodriguez hit three triples in a row to up the advantage to 5-0. Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaeger. Braydon Martin drew a walk. Coy Gurka was brought in as a courtesy runner. He promptly moved to second on a single by Ryder Biggs, and then scored on a single by Houston Hodde. The Panthers were up at that point 7-0.

Burton added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Issac Matthies led it off with a single, and then came around to score on an RBI double by Witt.

Witt stole second, and scored on on a passed ball. Rodriguez drew a walk, took second and third on passed balls, and scored on an error, which made it 10-0 Burton.

The win improves the Panthers to 12-8.

Next up, they will go Milano to open their next District 26-2A series on Tuesday night at 6:30pm.
