Lori and John Hasskarl have made a generous donation to the Blinn College Foundation to establish scholarships in honor of Dr. W.F. “Boy” Hasskarl Jr. and Dr. Robert A. Winkelmann. There are no restrictions on the scholarships.

Lori Hasskarl is the daughter of Winkelmann, a prominent dentist who died in 1981. John Hasskarl is the son of W.F. Hasskarl Jr., former Brenham mayor who died in 2008.

Drs. Winkelmann and Hasskarl both served on the Blinn Board of Trustees and were longtime supporters of the college. Winkelmann served as a Blinn trustee from 1964-76, including as board secretary and vice president.

Both have been inducted into Blinn’s Hall of Honor, Hasskarl in 2007 and Winkelmann in 2018.

During Winkelmann’s service on the Blinn board, the college saw significant growth and the addition of several buildings, including the Moody Library and the Fine Arts Building. Hasskarl served two terms as Brenham mayor, from 1968-72, after being elected to the Blinn board in 1964.

“We appreciate the generosity shown by Lori and John,” said Foundation Board Chairman Michael Schaefer. “The gifts honoring their fathers are a tribute and a testament to how much they cared about Blinn College. The two endowed scholarships will have a life-changing impact on students for generations.”

“Blinn College was so important to each of our fathers,” said Lori and John Hasskarl. “They both served on the board of trustees, willingly giving their time and efforts to the College and its students. We’re honored to be able to make this gift to the Foundation, which does so much good for so many students.”

The Foundation, which oversees more than 300 endowed scholarships, is a tax-exempt organization that provides financial support for programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn students and expand educational opportunities.

The Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.

Endowed scholarships are available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. Students are considered based on high academic achievement, participation in student activities, and community involvement.

Current high school and college students can apply for Blinn scholarships by completing the application at www.blinn.edu/scholarships. Prior to applying for scholarships, students must complete their application for admission to Blinn College at www.applytexas.org.
