BLINN-BRENHAM THEATRE ARTS TO STAGE ‘GOD’S FAVORITE’ MAY 1-4
The Blinn College District Theatre Arts Program will conclude its 2024-25 Brenham Campus theme of “Biblical proportions” with the staging of “God’s Favorite” to close the season.
“God’s Favorite” will be staged May 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and May 3 and 4 at 2 p.m. at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center at 600 Blinn Boulevard. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Blinn students and children. They are available online at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling 979-830-4024, or emailing boxoffice@blinn.edu.
Set in the winter of 1974, “God’s Favorite” focuses on the affluent Benjamin family, which includes a pious, God-fearing tycoon, his materialistic wife, his hippy son, and a pair of unique and quirky twins. One night, a messenger from God arrives and tempts the tycoon to renounce God. When he refuses, he is visited by all the afflictions detailed in the Bible’s Book of Job.
The play is recommended for ages 13 and up due to adult subject matter and mild profanity. It will use flashing lights and atmospheric effects.
Cast members are Ace Burns as Joe Benjamin, Jaden Mertz as Ben Benjamin, Kat Gonzales as Sarah Benjamin, Eric Cruz as David Benjamin, and Josh Delossantos as Sidney Lipton.
Crew members are William Stiles, stage manager; Ivory Lasker, assistant stage manager; Steven Houlihan, student costume designer; Clem Schroeder, student scenery designer; Joy Falkenburg, student sound designer; and Caylin Darnell, student lighting designer.
Theatre Arts Professor Brad Nies will direct the play. Theatre Arts Instructor Jennifer Patrick will oversee costumes, makeup, and hair design, with Kevin Patrick, Technical Theatre Arts Professor, heading technical direction.
Blinn’s Theatre Arts Program cultivates a quality educational foundation of study, application, and experience through a wide range of performance, technical, and production studies. Its Associate of Arts degree plan integrates artistic, technical, and academic disciplines of theatre from the classroom to the stage. Students have an opportunity to audition for a variety of performances related to drama and theatre and are prepared to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
