BURTON LADY PANTHERS SWEEP SERIES OVER BIG SANDY
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team won the Bi-District Championship last (Friday) night with a double header sweep over Big Sandy Lady Wildcats.
Burton won the first game 16-1 after jumping on Big Sandy early and often.
Reagan Roemer got it started on a positive note with a solo homer over the left field fence to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Natalie Hodde drew a walk. Amaya Williams followed with a two run homer of her own to make it 3-0 Burton. Paige Fritsch kept it going with a single, and then scored when Aerynn Huntsman reached on an error to increase the Lady Panthers' lead to 4-0.
After batting a round in the first inning, Roemer came up again to lead off the second. She had a double, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Williams to increase the Burton advantage to 5-0.
The Lady Panthers would put the exclamation point on the game with eleven runs in the fourth inning. Burton ended up sending 16 batters to the plate.
Roemer reached on a single, and Hodde followed by reaching on a fielder's choice. Williams then unloaded her second home run of the day, a three run shot to straight away centerfield. Lexi Broesche followed with a solo homer to give the Lady Panthers a 9-0 lead.
Fritsch, Laci Broesche, and Huntsman loaded the bases on walks. Jennifer Lopez was hit by a pitch, which allowed Fritsch to score. Roemer smacked a two-run single to score Laci Broesche and Huntsman. That made it 12-0 Burton.
Natalie Hodde singled to re-load the bases, and then Williams followed with a two-run single to bring home Lopez and Roemer. Lexi Broesche capped off the scoring with a two-run double that allowed Hodde and Williams to score increase the Lady Panther lead to 16-0.
Big Sandy did manage to put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 16-1, but Burton would go on to win via the mercy rule.
Bailey Glaesmann got the win after pitching four innings allowing just one unearned run on three hits, and striking out five.

The second game started with Big Sandy scoring a run on an error to take an early 1-0 lead. The score would remain that way until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Lexi Broesche led it off with a single, and Paige Fritsch followed with a two-run homer to put Burton in front 2-1.
The Burton offense then exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning. Roemer and Hodde had back-to-back singles. Amaya Williams smashed an RBI double to score Roemer. Lexi Broesche came up next, and hit a two-run single to score Hodde and Williams giving the Lady Panthers a 5-1 lead.
Fritsch drew a walk to put two runners on for Bailey Glaesmann, who brought them both home with a two run double. Laci Broesche walked and Aerynn Huntsman was hit by a pitch. Kelsie Holht move the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. Broesche scored on a wild pitch. Roemer would then bring home Huntsman with an RBI single. Burton lead at that point 9-1.
Just as they were about to start the top of the sixth inning, the lightning and the rains came down, which force a near hour and a half delay.
When play resumed, Burton scored two more runs. Fritsch and Glaesmann hit back-to-back singles. Later in the inning, Huntsman drove home Fritsch with an RBI single, and Roemer drove in Glaesmann with another RBI single to invoke the mercy rule.
Lexi Broesche got the win in the circle after pitching all six innings, and striking out 11.
Burton now moves on to the Area Round of the Playoffs where they will take on Granger. Date, time, and location to be determined.
