BURTON LADY PANTHERS LATE INNING RALLY FALLS SHORT AS WEIMAR TAKES GAME 1

The Burton Lady Panthers dropped Game 1 of a Best 2 out of 3 series to Weimar by a final score of 7-3. Taylor Smith for the Lady Kats kept Burton off balance all night long totaling 13 strikeouts.

The Lady Panthers fell behind early in the bottom of the 1st inning after Claire Pavlu singled to drive in Tate Griffin to give Weimar a 1-0 lead. Smith would aid her own cause as she added a run of her own with a solo homerun in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, giving the Lady Kats a 2-0 advantage. Burton Senior Bailey Glaesmann, would settle in in the 4th inning and retire the Weimer side in order.
Weimar would then score two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, after getting the first two batters on and double by Sam Rangel, making the score 4–0.
Burton would capitalize on 3 consecutive errors by the Weimar defense, as Amaya Williams and Lexi Broesche would come into score on a double by Paige Fritsch, who would end up at 3rd after a defensive blunder by the Weimar center fielder. Fritsch would then come in to score on an infield hit by Laci Broesche, to cut the lead to one run. With the score 4-3 Weimar lead going into the bottom of the 6th where the Lady Kats tacked on 3 insurance runs after the first 4 batters reached base and made the score 7-3. Burton managed a couple base runners in the top of the 7th, but were unable to plate anymore runs.

With Weimar taking game 1 of this best 2 out of 3 series, game 2 is a must win for the Lady Panthers to force a 3rd game this Saturday. Game 2 will be Friday Night at 7:00 in Waller, 6:30 Pregame on KWHI AM-1280, FM-101.1, and KWHI.com. If Burton wins, game 3 will be at 1:00 on Saturday, 12:30 Pregame on KWHI.
