APRIL UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN ACROSS AREA

  

Unemployment figures continued to decline in April in Washington and surrounding counties.

According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County recorded a jobless rate of 3.3 percent in April, down from 3.8 percent in March. 

The county’s number of unemployed residents fell from 672 in March to 592 in April.

Employment grew from 17,140 people in March to 17,463 in April.  The total civilian force rose from 17,812 in March to 18,055 last month. 

In April 2024, the county reported a jobless rate of 3.2 percent, with 555 people out of work.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained the same from month to month, at 4.1 percent.

Regional unemployment rates include:

  • Austin County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent in March.
  • Brazos County – 2.8 percent, down from 3.3 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3 percent, down from 3.4 percent.
  • Colorado County – 3.5 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.8 percent in March.
  • Grimes County – 3.9 percent, down from 4.4 percent.
  • Lee County – 2.9 percent, down from 3.3 percent.
  • Waller County – 4.3 percent, down from 4.8 percent.
