Washington County public safety officials, local dignitaries and community members gathered outside the courthouse in downtown Brenham this (Thursday) morning to pay tribute to peace officers who have died in the last year.
Each year, the Washington County Peace Officers Association organizes the observance to honor the lives of personnel from police departments, sheriff’s offices, the Texas Department of Public Safety and other agencies around the state. This year, the names of 17 officers in Texas were read.
Leading the memorial service was Daniel Gaskamp of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, who said as time goes on, ways of life evolve and attitudes surrounding law enforcement change, it is important to remember the continued sacrifices that first responders make.
