BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM SPEAKER SERIES TO HOST PRESENTATION ON THE OLD 300 SETTLERS
The Brenham Heritage Museum’s Speaker Series continues this month with a look at the history behind some of Texas’ early settlers.
Historian Dr. Paul Spellman, the author of “Old 300: Gone to Texas”, will present a program on Tuesday, June 24th from 6 to 7 p.m. at the museum, 105 South Market Street.
Dr. Spellman’s talk, titled “The Old 300: Who Were They Really?”, will explore the stories and background of the first 300 families who entered Mexican Texas as part of Stephen F. Austin’s colony. Dr. Spellman will share details about the settlers’ origins, motivations and legacies.
Dr. Spellman is retired after teaching for 30 years at the college level, including 25 years at Wharton County Junior College. He has published 14 books on Texas history, both fiction and nonfiction, and is currently working with fellow historian Donaly Brice on a biography of Mathew “Old Paint” Caldwell, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and soldier in the Texas army.
Attendees will be able to meet the author and enjoy food and refreshments at a members-only reception at 5:30 p.m., prior to the program.
Admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. To RSVP, email admin@brenhamheritagemuseum.org.
