VEHICLE FIRE, MULTIPLE ALARMS AMONG EIGHT CALLS FOR BRENHAM FD BETWEEN SATURDAY, EARLY MONDAY

The Brenham Fire Department responded to eight calls between Saturday and early this (Monday) morning.

Close to 9:15 a.m. Saturday, firefighters went out to a vehicle fire in the 2200 block of Highway 290 West.  They made location to find a pickup with a fire in the engine compartment that had been put out with extinguishers prior to the department’s arrival.  They checked for hotspots and remained on scene until the vehicle was towed, at which point they cleared the call.

Shortly after 10:15 a.m., a fire alarm was reported at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South.  The alarm was reset prior to the department making location.  Units found that the alarm was activated unintentionally while cooking.

Another alarm at the Brenham State Supported Living Center was reported a few minutes before 12:30 p.m.  Firefighters were advised by staff that the alarm was reset, with nothing being found that would have activated the alarm system.

Just past 12:30 p.m., BFD members were called out to a crash not blocking the roadway at West Commerce Street and South Douglas Street.  They discovered a minor accident and remained on scene for traffic control until they were released by the Brenham Police Department.

Just shy of 9:15 p.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 4000 block of Old Chappell Hill Road for a fire alarm.  Upon arrival, units found the alarm was already reset and had activated unintentionally during cooking.

Around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a crash with no entrapment in the 2600 block of Highway 36 South.  There, they found a minor accident involving a four-door sedan and a stand-on scooter.  They assisted EMS and controlled traffic before returning to service.

Around 11:45 p.m., a fire alarm was reported at a home in the 1900 block of Shady Lane.  Crews investigated and found nothing that would have activated the alarm, so they reset the system and returned to the station.

Approaching 2:45 a.m. today, BFD personnel went out to a home in the 800 block of East Academy Street for a gas odor.  They investigated and found nothing, and they waited on scene until the City of Brenham Gas Department arrived in order to notify them of their findings before clearing the call.
